Aloha 'Oe Hawaii

Don't worry. Both Ramzi and I are well aware we haven't been residents of Hawaii for a good six weeks now. I just wanted to share some of our last few moments in Hawaii that didn't make it on the last post. Saying goodbye to the place we met and fell in love was a lot harder than we thought it would be. But we know we are very blessed to have such a beautiful place in our hearts and our memories. And we are excited to experience what New Zealand has to offer and add another place to the list of where we have left pieces of our hearts. But for now....here is how we got to say goodbye before heading the mainland to visit family.

This is a panoramic of our favorite beach on the island: Kawela Bay. This is where we spent most of our time the summer we fell in love. At the edge you can see Ramzi drawing a castle in the sand for me. He loves me so much he'll even do silly things for me when I ask.

Here are some close ups of what the castle looked like. It kind of had an Arabian Nights theme, which I loved.

And...I have to say, after seeing a picture like this, the long hair is growing on me (no pun intended). Gosh, I married such a handsome man! This is one of my all time favorite pictures of Ramzi.

This was one of the last time we saw the piggies itty bitty before we left. The big one is Connie, our favorite (hence the collar) who is the proud mommy of the brood behind her. Leaving the piggies was probably one of the hardest parts about leaving Hawaii. If only we could sneak them in our luggage and start a pig farm in New Zealand!

We had one last bath/sleepover with one of our favorite little piggy, Hooves. This is her napping on our bed a couple days before we left. Needless to say we didn't get much packing done with such a cute piggy to snuggle with.

And last but not least, here is our original favorite piggy, Geoffrey. He loved getting to eat from the chicken feeders, so the day before we left we let him eat to his heart's content. He had so  much food in his hair it took us ten minutes to brush it all off after he was done!

Another adventure we had was trying to get rid of all of our food before we left. Besides giving it to the piggies and donating it, I baked and baked cookies to use up all of our flour. It was a yummy distraction and Ramzi said my cookies were almost as good as his sister's which is saying something.

This was our last sunset we got to see in Hawaii before we left. The tide was super low and we got to walk out on the reef and it was just a tender mercy to be able to experience such a beautiful moment to help say goodbye. I still dream about the colors of this sunset and holding Ramzi's hand walking out in the water.

And here we are, on the plane, almost back to the mainland. Ramzi, with all his thinking ahead, helped ease the pain of leaving Hawaii by using points to book our flight home as FIRST CLASS. It was also kind of a birthday surprise for me as well. We were sad to leave, but excited to see family, and especially excited to be one step closer to New Zealand.

To close this goodbye post, here are the lyrics to the song Aloha 'Oe. Until we meet again, Hawaii.

Ha`aheo ka ua i nâ pali
Ke nihi a`ela i ka nahele
E hahai (uhai) ana paha i ka liko
Pua `âhihi lehua o uka

Hui:
Aloha `oe, aloha `oe
E ke onaona noho i ka lipo
One fond embrace,
A ho`i a`e au
Until we meet again

`O ka hali`a aloha i hiki mai
Ke hone a`e nei i
Ku`u manawa
`O `oe nô ka`u ipo aloha
A loko e hana nei

Maopopo ku`u `ike i ka nani
Nâ pua rose o Maunawili
I laila hia`ia nâ manu
Miki`ala i ka nani o ka lipo

Proudly swept the rain by the cliffs
As it glided through the trees
Still following ever the bud
The `ahihi lehua of the vale

Chorus:
Farewell to you, farewell to you
The charming one who dwells in the shaded bowers
One fond embrace,
'Ere I depart
Until we meet again

Sweet memories come back to me
Bringing fresh remembrances
Of the past
Dearest one, yes, you are mine own
From you, true love shall never depart

I have seen and watched your loveliness
The sweet rose of Maunawili
And 'tis there the birds of love dwell
And sip the honey from your lips
